About the School of Culture in Karlskrona

The School of Culture in Karlskrona belongs to the Department of Culture and Leisure and is an important part of the municipality's cultural activities. The School of Culture is responsible for conducting voluntary education for children and young people in the fields of music, dance, visual arts, theatre, and film, meeting approximately 1,000 students per week from lower secondary to upper secondary school.

We strive to be innovative and boundary-pushing while also preserving musical and artistic traditions. Our ambition is to awaken the curiosity of young people and give each individual the opportunity to express themselves through the various languages of culture. For us at the School of Culture, collaboration and projects across different subjects are a matter of course.

The core activity of the School of Culture is voluntary subject courses, but through various projects, the School also collaborates with primary and upper secondary schools. The School of Culture also conducts outward-facing activities, which are an important part of Karlskrona's cultural life. As a music teacher, you will have approximately 20 colleagues in various subjects and professional fields.

Job Responsibilities

As a music teacher, you are independently responsible for scheduling, lessons, and lesson planning. You are responsible for the necessary contacts with students and guardians and participate in staff meetings. You plan the outward-facing activities together with your colleagues. Part of the role presupposes collaboration across subject boundaries, both individually and in work teams. To thrive in this role, you should enjoy teaching students where joy in playing and curiosity-creating pedagogy are prominent. You must be able to meet the needs and interests of the individual child and have a clear child's perspective in your teaching. The position includes teaching in singing, individually and in groups, as well as choirs.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a Teacher's Degree or other education that the employer deems equivalent. Furthermore, you are theoretically knowledgeable and have singing experience within most musical styles. You have a good and trustworthy way of working with children and young people to give our students the tools to develop their artistic and technical skills. The position requires that you are self-initiating, engaged, and accustomed to driving your own projects.

You are passionate about creating conditions for creative learning together with both colleagues and students. As a person, you are positive, flexible, and contribute to creating a creative working climate.

Employment Terms

Employment Type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 3-6 months, start date: 2026-08-13, end date: 2027-02-12.

The position is a 100% temporary replacement from 2026-08-13 to 2027-02-12, with possible extension. Work is performed according to a schedule during day and evening hours. Some weekend work may occur during events and outward-facing activities.
